The Detroit Lions have been the talk of the town...or really the talk of the nation. Detroit came into Sunday's game 5-0 hosting the San Francisco 49ers who were 4-1 with a late overtime loss.
Detroit has been through a recent struggle, but with the Lions off to such a good start, you feel the community on the winning side as well.
The Lions started the game with a Jason Hanson field goal to make the game 3-0, Lions. Detroit had momentum early as the Lions marched down the field to score again on a pass from Matthew Stafford, to Brandon Pettigrew (Jason Hanson extra point) making it 10-0 Lions!
San Francisco answered back, marching down the field allowing Frank Gore to cap off the drive on a 1 yard run. Momentum swung quick as Matt Stafford was sacked giving the 49ers more points on the board. They were rewarded the ball following the safety and the 49ers took advantage! David Akers knocked in a outstanding 55 yard field goal to give them the lead heading into the half, 12-10.
In the third, there wasn't much scoring. The reliable Jason Hanson hit a 24 yard field goal to make it 13-12, Lions. San Fancisco matched that as Akers knocked another field goal down from 31 yards out to give the 49ers the lead again, 15-13.
The fourth quarter was huge in this close game! Detroit marched down field and scored off another pass from the young quarterback, Matt Stafford. Stafford connected with Nate Burleson from 5 yards out. The Lions failed the two-point conversion following that touchdown. Detroit was now ahead 19-15 and Detroit was jumping!
The 49ers were clutch in this one, scoring 10 unanswered points to give them the lead and the victory late in the fourth. Detroit was experiencing something they havnt since losing to Chicago, last year in week 13. The final score was 25-19 in favor of San Fancisco and now its back to the drawing board for our Lions!
